Unfortunately, greed, selfishness, and destruction have become a way of life in our country. National leaders think in the short term and only about what benefits the upper echelon of society. As role models, they teach hatred, disregard, and intolerance for anything that varies from their interpretation of what’s right. This path not only leads to a quantum leap backward for humanity but also negatively affects the natural world.
Their disregard for the future, denial of climate change, and lack of consideration for the environment imperils nature’s balance. In turn, all the creatures that depend on that balance will suffer, and then that suffering will continue up the food chain. Eventually, society’s tunnel vision will bite humanity in the backside.
Remember folks, we are not alone in this world. We rely on insects and other wildlife to keep flora growing, provide food, and clean up waste. We cannot live without them, but they could happily live without us.
Be a Positive Force
It’s remarkable how many of the living beings that share the planet with us instinctively know how to thrive and prosper through all the stages of their lives. Even though they are supposedly less intelligent than humans, these creatures automatically recognize how and what to eat and where to shelter. Most amazingly, they can tell when it’s time to change from summer mode to winter.
Over the eons, insects and other wildlife have evolved to intuitively sense the change in weather, locate a winter home, and provision it for the colder months. They’re smart and take advantage of the resources surrounding them. Resources we take for granted, overlook, and needlessly destroy include tall grass, leaves and other ground cover, loose soil, broken flower stems, tree snags, decaying wood, and wetlands.
You all know how much I enjoy being outside, communing with nature. Sadly, with all the construction and destruction of native habitats, native populations have diminished. Yet, the remaining creatures still find a way to follow their innate programming and make do with whatever is left.
It’s fascinating to watch how the organized chaos (mess) in my yard actually benefits the bugs, birds, and wildlife that share the neighborhood with us. These beautiful creatures continue going about their business without worrying about the future. That encourages me to adopt the same mindset. Of course, my concern about our political climate will remain, but I can be a positive force and do what I can to provide homes for the wild things.

Love it, Greta!
And I have to say congratulations for "the organized chaos (mess)" in your yard. It's the salvation of some tiniest fraction of life on the planet. But I'd rather be a tiniest part of the salvation than the destruction. So good on you!
